SCS Ltd. Signs Distributor Agreement With Blueye Robotics AS.

Subsea Commercial Services Ltd. (SCS) is proud to announce the securing of the exclusive Scottish distribution rights for Norwegian ROV manufacturer Blueye Robotics AS.

Founded in 2015, Blueye has its roots in the highly renowned Centre for Autonomous Marine Operations and Systems (AMOS) at The Norwegian University of Science and Technology. With over one thousand ROVs delivered to more than 50 countries worldwide, Blueye’s product offering is proven, very capable and technologically extremely evolved.

Callum Magee, SCS’s Managing Director, leans on his years of small ROV experience when stating: “Blueye has nailed it! If you wrote down a list of the limitations and frustrations involved in Mini-ROV operations, the Blueye X3 ROV removes everything on that list. For me, the integration of hardware and software sets the X3 apart. The lack of traditional ROV topside, enabled by networked devices and downloadable piloting, viewing and reporting software, coupled with the vehicle’s power and payload capabilities, make it the complete package”.

Deployed in underwater remote visual inspection and survey applications, the battery powered X3 is equipped with work enabling sensors, manipulators, sonars and positioning systems from a range of leading manufacturers. The X3 has no topside case or cables, with the ROV benefiting from an integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth hub which enables viewing and recording on personal devices. The vehicle is piloted via a wireless handheld controller, reducing risk and increasing flexibility on work sites, remote locations and vessels.

Christian Gabrielsen, CEO of Blueye is enthusiastic about the relationship: “We see Scotland as a key geographical region and are delighted to have teamed up with SCS. They have a great deal of experience and an extensive network in our primary market sectors and we’re looking forward to supporting their efforts in developing the Scottish market”.

SCS is organising a client roadshow across Scotland during the second half of November 2022 with live demonstrations of the X3 available upon request. Please contact SCS to book your time slot. SCS will also be exhibiting the X3 and our other subsea solutions at Subsea Expo, February 2023, Aberdeen, Scotland.

SCS Ltd Supplies Heriot Watt University Location & Tracking Solutions For iAtlantic Deep-Sea Research Project

Subsea Commercial Services Ltd. (Aberdeen, Scotland) is delighted to have supplied Heriot Watt University (Edinburgh, Scotland) with a range of Xeos asset location, tracking and recovery beacons for deployment during the iAtlantic research programme .

The Deep-Sea Ecology and Biogeochemistry Research Team located at the Lyell Centre at Heriot-Watt University will deploy the lithium battery powered solutions mounted to a seafloor autonomous lander. The lander will be released at the surface and will sink under its own weight to the seafloor. With deployments lasting up to one year, during a planned recovery, the lander will float back to the surface where the 11,000m rated titanium housed XMB-11K VHF location beacon will self-activate and start transmitting its location for tracking and recovery via the marine radio frequency. To aid in night-time recovery, the lander has also been fitted with a low light activated XMF-11K high intensity LED Flasher for visual confirmation.

In the event of an unplanned seafloor release and surfacing, the lander has also been fitted with the XMA-11K Argos satellite communication beacon. This transmits the lander’s location within 30 seconds of the beacon breaking through the water’s surface. With the research team alerted to the unplanned surfacing event, the nearest suitable vessel of opportunity can be tasked with asset recovery.

The iAtlantic programme is seeking to assess the health of deep-sea ecosystems across the full span of the Atlantic Ocean from the tip of Argentina in the south to Iceland in the north, and from the east coasts of USA and Brazil to the western margins of Europe and Africa. The ambitious project will – for the first time – undertake an ocean-wide approach to understanding the factors that control the distribution, stability and vulnerability of Atlantic deep-sea ecosystems. With the objective of determining the resilience of deep-sea animals and their habitats to threats such as climate change, pollution and human activities such as deep-sea mining and deep-sea trawling, the programme’s success is based upon international collaboration and sharing of expertise, equipment, infrastructure, data and personnel.

Programme co-lead and Head of Deep-Sea Ecology at Heriot-Watt, Professor Andrew K. Sweetman stated “We’re delighted to be using XEOS equipment supplied by Subsea Commercial Services Ltd that will aid in the recovery of our lander platforms.  The Deep-Sea Ecology and Biogeochemistry research group at the Lyell Centre operate the largest and most advanced lander fleet in the UK and getting the equipment back from the deep sea is a key objective to us during each expedition.  We currently have 13 deep-sea expeditions scheduled over the next 5 years and continue to use XEOS systems that we’ve always found are reliable, lightweight and more than capable of coping with the day-to-day stresses that we put on these systems.”

SCS Ltd. To Release New IP Ethernet Product Range At Subsea Expo 2019

Subsea Commercial Services Ltd. are delighted to announce the official release of their new range of underwater IP ethernet products at Subsea Expo 2019 (Aberdeen, Scotland). The new range is a mix of second generation HD IP cameras and new IP device integration solutions.

The new cameras, the IPCam-LL and FIPCam-LL, build on the success SCS experienced in 2018 with the release of their first generation HD IP cameras, the IPCam & FIPCam.  The new models are a powerful and unique combination of full colour 1080p HD and 0.001 Lux low light capability coupled in one camera!  Enhanced with optical and infinite digital zoom, these breakthrough units perform as well in submerged bright ambient conditions as they do in low light, making them real go anywhere solutions.  Meeting industry standards (ONVIF, H.264, RTSP), the 10/100Mbps BaseT ethernet units are rated from 300m to 6000m, come with their own GUI and have already proved themselves in the offshore sphere with several successful deployments and rental projects achieved.

To assist clients with the integration of these exciting new cameras and other IP controlled devices to underwater systems that don’t have fibre optics available, SCS has released the EX-Hub.  The EX-Hub VDSL Ethernet eXtender is designed to convert 10/100Mbps ethernet to VDSL ethernet, thus enabling the use of ethernet controlled devices if only a Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) is available.

Available with 1 to 4 channels, the EX-Hub recently exceeded expectations at a trial with a leading offshore operator.  The trial consisted of transmitting live video from an SCS HD IP camera over a total of 930m of STP, including passing through two slip rings, while the Saab Seaeye Tiger ROV involved had all thrusters and lights running at full power.  With absolutely no image quality degradation or camera control issues (zoom, focus, etc.) the trial was deemed a success by the highly experienced industry professionals in attendance.  Please contact SCS directly to receive a copy of the trial case study.

SCS’ next underwater IP ethernet integration solution is the EE-Hub.  The Ethernet Expansion Hub enables offshore operators to access the wasted capacity in their Gigabyte (GBE) and 10/100 Ethernet channels.  The EE-Hub is a subsea 10/100/1000Mbps ethernet switch capable of connecting six 10/100/1000Mbps channels to a single GBE or 10/100Mbps channel.  Outputting 24VDC with a maximum of 6 Amps available, the Hub is ideal for multi camera surveys, sonar applications and a variety of other underwater applications.

The compact size and light weight in water of both the EE-Hub and EX-Hub make them perfect for mounting to a variety of vehicle classes, monitoring platforms, landers and towed systems. Callum Magee, Managing Director of SCS explains:

“As the offshore energy sector catches up with other global industries in utilising the benefits of IP devices and the wider networkability and flexibility that brings, SCS is working hard to position itself as a recognised and trusted IP solutions provider to our international client base.  We have been really encouraged by our progress in 2018 and are looking forward to 2019 with confidence.”

To learn more about these and SCS’ other market leading solutions, please visit us at Stand No. 48 at Subsea Expo Exhibition, AECC, Aberdeen UK, 5th-7th February 2019.
