The Future Of Underwater Wireless Networks

The Future Of Underwater Wireless Networks

The Wireless Networked Communications (WNC) series of underwater acoustic modems provide best-in class performance with up to 15 kbps and more than 4 km of communication range (horizontal) in littoral waters for the M25M series, and up to 30 kbps and over 1 km of communication range for the S60H series. Both are optimised for throughput, communication range, and reliability with features like spatial diversity combining, Machine Learning enabled adaptive link tuning, and robust forward error correction codes.

The WNC range of acoustic modems are supported with the UnetStack software suite, UnetStack enables operators to:
  • Develop and configure underwater communication networks.
  • Automate and optimise network management.
  • Develop, simulate, and test new network protocols.
  • Implement software defined signalling at the hardware level.
Deployed in subsea inspection, intervention and survey applications, this software defined open architecture solution can simultaneously:
  • Facilitate both surface and underwater networks.
  • Command, control, position and track a fleet of AUVs.
  • Communicate with and monitor divers.
  • Power and harvest data from integrated 3rd party sensors.
  • Enable ‘gateway’ surface buoys for underwater internet.

Key performance facts include:
  • Optimised acoustic transmission via Machine Learning Adaptive Link Tuning.
  • Optimised for Throughput, Communication Range or Reliability.
  • Up to 30 kbps over 1 km range and up to 15 kbps data over 4 km (S.E. Asian waters).
  • Highly innovative multi-channel receiving modems generate near 50% better channel performance in challenging conditions.
  • Optimised transmission of video, images, sensor payload and navigational data.
  • Supports asset localisation and ranging with 0.1 m precision.
