Subsea Commercial Services (SCS) has strengthened its underwater inspection capability with the acquisition of a new, upgraded Blueye X3 Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), further enhancing its ability to deliver high-quality inspection services across marine, offshore and inland water sectors.
The latest addition to the SCS asset pool includes ruggedised waterproof piloting controller, 350-metre extended tether, Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) and integrated GPS positioning, significantly improving station keeping, navigation accuracy and geospatial data capture during underwater operations.
The Blueye X3 is a professional-grade inspection ROV designed for precision work in challenging underwater environments. Compact and highly portable, the system can be deployed rapidly by a single operator, reducing mobilisation time and operational costs while maintaining exceptional inspection quality.
The new X3 compliments SCS’ existing X3 system, with the ruggedised controller, extended tether, DVL and GPS changeable between the two assets.
Enhanced Capability for Complex Inspections
The upgraded configuration enables SCS to deliver more advanced inspection solutions, particularly in environments where positional accuracy and stability are critical.
With the integration of DVL and GPS-linked positioning systems, the ROV can maintain precise station holding and provide accurate location tracking—capabilities that are essential for repeat inspections, asset integrity monitoring and survey-grade reporting. The X3 platform is specifically designed to support such integrations through multiple communication ports and compatibility with external sensors and navigation systems.
High-Performance Inspection Platform
The Blueye X3 delivers a powerful combination of performance, flexibility and data quality, including:
This versatility enables SCS to tailor inspection packages to specific client requirements across a wide range of industries.
Supporting Critical Infrastructure and Marine Operations
SCS deploys the Blueye X3 across multiple sectors, including:
The system’s compact design, combined with wireless control via mobile devices, eliminates the need for bulky topside systems and allows efficient deployment in remote or confined environments.
Driving Safer, Smarter Inspections
By investing in advanced ROV technology, SCS looks to provide a safer and more cost-effective alternative to traditional diver-based inspections. The enhanced Blueye X3 platform enables:
Commitment to Innovation
The addition of this enhanced Blueye X3 system reflects SCS’s ongoing commitment to investing in cutting-edge subsea technology to meet the evolving needs of clients across marine, energy and environmental sectors.
Callum Magee, Managing Director at Subsea Commercial Services, said:
“Our investment in advanced ROV technology like the Blueye X3 ensures we are delivering the highest standard of underwater inspection services to our clients.
By integrating DVL and GPS positioning, we are able to carry out highly accurate, repeatable inspections while significantly reducing the need for diver intervention. This not only improves safety outcomes but also lowers operational costs and minimises disruption to client assets.
From an environmental perspective, the ability to deploy a highly portable compact, electrically powered ROV with rapid mobilisation supports a lower carbon approach to inspection activities, aligning with our clients’ ESG objectives.
Ultimately, this investment allows us to provide safer, smarter and more sustainable inspection solutions that help our clients protect and optimise their critical infrastructure.”
